Boulogne and Berlin - 2005

The club took a coach to Normandy in 2003 and were supposed to stop off in Boulogne on our last day to see their Aquarium. Unfortunately the French Minister of Education had commandeered the place for a day of school visits - so not only could we not get in we had to contend with hundreds of kids roaming round the town waiting for their time to visit.

Four of us finally made it in a car in 2005 and it is well worth a visit. Some very good reef tanks in the gallery but then you enter the main exhibit which is literally a man made reef that can be viewed from the side, from above by walking out on a pier AND from below by sticking your head up through holes in the floor

The next club trip to Europe was in 2005 to Hanover, Hamlyn and Berlin where we got the following pictures. Berlin is quite a traditional type of public aquarium but with some very good marine displays and like Koln (Cologne) that we visited some years ago also has some very large aquascape type tanks in a gallery
