Rab & Lesley's Second Big Trip

Days 62 & 63 Hoover Dam & Grand Canyon

Day 62 - 31st January 2019

We picked up a hire car for the drive to the Grand Canyon
First stop was a lookout point over Lake Mead, the reservoir formed by the Hoover Dam

Mosaic on the footpath at the lookout

Upstream side of the Hoover Dam. Water level is quite low considering it's winter

Downstream side - didn't see 007

The interstate Highway soaring over the Colorado river. We couldn't see the Dam from the bridge.

Upstream - from the Dam

This is how a lot of the excavation work was done - officially 96 died in the construction

The Hydo electric Power house at the base of the dam

The Colorado river seen from a lookout on the I93 about 12 miles south of the dam

We still had over 200 miles to go to get to our hotel which is just a few miles from the Grand Canyon's southern rim
Got there to find SNOW

Best find a warm jumper for tomorrow

Day 63 - 1st February 2019

This is the last actual holiday day of this trip.
We started this trip with a Hot Air Balloon flight and are finishing with a Helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon

Back on the ground we drove up to the rim for some more views
