Days 54 & 55 - Hawaii


Day 54 - 23rd January 2019

A very early start for a Grand Circle Tour of Ohau starting at Waikiki Beach


Diamond Head Lighthouse


Hanauma Bay

This bay, next to Halona Blowhole, is where the famous beach scene in 'From Here To Eternity' was filmed

Manana Island and Kaohikaipo Island seen from Makapu‘U Beach

Views from Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout





The Byodo-In Temple - a half size replica of the original in Japan



The lake around the Temple is teeming with Koi



Kualoa ranch

Mokoli'i Island seen from Kualoa ranch - nicknamed the Chinamans hat

Hukilau Beach - the bodies on the second wave willgive you the scale

Then back to a beach front cafe in Waikiki for supper - with live music

and another brilliant sunset

Long exposure of the township west of Diamond head - Daughter thinks it looks like lava flows

Day 55 - 24th January 2019

A visit to Pearl Harbour and the arizona Memorial
The Memorial is closed for repairs but the Navy do take you out to it on a short boat tour

USS Missouri wasn't launched till 1944 but was the site of the formal Japanese surrender
It now rests in Peal Harbour alongside the sunken USS Arizona





Polaris missiles


Took a shuttle across to Ford Island and the Pearl Harbour Aviation Museum





This plane knew at least one well known pilot



This chopper looks fiercesome enough without the custom paint job





They have a restoration workshop

some exhibits need a lot of work...
